Subject : With regard to the minimum age of a person who may obtain a principal or additional [under the relevant principal card] credit card, please see the Explanation, below.
Explanation:
1. This is in response to the R.O.C. Bankers Association letter, dated August 26, 2003 (Ref. No. Quan-Shou-Zi 2252) forwarded to the MOF by the Bureau of Monetary Affairs, MOF.
2. Credit card issuers may only issue a principal credit card to persons twenty (20) years of age or older and an additional card [under the relevant principal card] to persons fifteen (15) years of age or older; provided, that such rule shall not apply retroactively and shall be included in the Self-Disciplinary Rules for Credit Card Business that will come into effect on November 12, 2003.
3. If a credit card issuer wishes to issue principal and additional credit cards to persons below the minimum ages described above, such institution shall first obtain approval from the MOF to do so.
