   1 Deadline for Compliance with the Requirement of Concealing Card Numbers or ID/GUI Numbers on Credit Card Bills and Payment Slips

Subject:
Please comply with the matters set out in the “Statement” regarding the requirement that card issuing institutions showing a credit card number or the ID number or government uniform invoice (GUI) number of a card holder on a credit card bill or payment slip shall conceal a portion of the number per the Ministry of Finance Letter ref. Tai-Tsai-Rong-(IV)-0924000644 dated 7 July 2003. Please be advised and forward the information herein to credit card member institutions.

Statement:
1. All card issuing institutions (banks/credit cooperatives) shall complete system updating for the above-referenced requirement by the end of October 2003. On all credit card bills and payment slips mailed on or after 15 November 2003, card issuing institutions are prohibited from showing the credit card number or ID/GUI number of the customer in full, and shall ensure that third parties are unable to obtain or identify customer card numbers or ID/GUI numbers from any payment information.

2. The Bankers Association is asked to compile the status of improvements made by card issuing institutions in this respect and report them to the Ministry of Finance by the end of November 2003.
